As Washington, DC remains in a modified phase 2 reopening status, Destination DC (DDC) continues to communicate the latest on washington.org including a travel status update and coronavirus-related reopenings, closures and canceled events.
Many holiday happenings are virtual this year due to the pandemic including the annual National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony (Dec. 3) and Step Afrika!’s Magical Musical Holiday Show (Dec. 16). Ford’s Theatre will radio broadcast its popular play adaptation of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol on Dec. 25. For more wintertime inspiration, check out washington.org/winter.
The U.S. presidential inauguration takes place on Jan. 20, 2021. The swearing-in ceremony will be held on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol Building, but other event details have not been announced. As we have more information, washington.org/inauguration will serve as a guide. The site currently has 20+ inauguration hotel packages, free things to do and info on what’s open.
