Peirce Mill

Travel back 200 years without leaving the city

Follow Rock Creek north from the National Zoo to discover Peirce Mill—a working gristmill hidden in the heart of the city. Learn how waterpower still grinds corn into cornmeal and explore all four floors of this mechanical marvel, built in 1829. Peirce Mill is open on weekends, and admission is free. There are monthly milling demonstrations, offered from April to October, with special events and programs scheduled throughout the year. Take the Metro to the mill or use nearby bike paths and hiking trails. Parking is limited but may be available at the nearby picnic groves.

More information about Peirce Mill is available at www.friendsofpeircemill.org.
