The sports scene grew more exciting in 2005, since the District welcomed Major League Baseball back after a 30-year hiatus. The Redskins have made a couple of recent runs at the NFL playoffs, signaling a revival in the legendary football team. Beyond its six professional teams, the capital region is also one of the country’s premiere locations for high-profile athletic events like the Tiger Woods AT&T National PGA tournament and the NBA and WNBA All-Star Game.

Major League Baseball’s newest team, the Washington Nationals, bring professional baseball action to the District in a brand-new stadium located in Southwest DC. It will be the first “green” stadium in the country.

Washington, DC stands awash in red and gold when the NFL’s beloved ‘Skins take to FedEx Field in nearby Landover, MD. Owned by communications mogul Daniel Snyder, the Redskins have made a couple of recent runs at the playoffs. Although tickets are hard to come by for the regular season, they are generally available for preseason games.
