| Tour Bus Regulations - Capitol Historic District
| Tour Bus Permitting
Please be advised: Effective Saturday, June 9, 2007, motorcoaches will be precluded from traversing within certain locations within US Capitol Grounds. Tour buses need to travel along the routes in red on the attached Map.

The following are the prohibited areas:

  • Independence Ave between Washington Ave SW and 2nd SE
  • Constitution Avenue between First Street NW and 2nd Street NE
  • First Street between Constitution Ave NE and Independence Ave SE
  • First Street between Garfield Circle and Independence SW
  • Second Street between D Street NE and Independence Ave SE

We strongly encourage buses to enter at 3rd St. NE and Maryland Ave. NE to access the U.S Supreme Court and Library of Congress. Please use 3rd St. NW and Pennsylvania Ave. NW to drop off/pick up passengers at Garfield Circle and/or Peace Circle for access to the U.S. Capitol Building. Drivers should exit the same locations that they enter. Alternately, buses may exit at First St. NW and Constitution Ave. NW and travel West on Constitution Ave. NW or drivers may exit North on First St. NW toward Louisiana Ave. NW.

Should you have any questions on the new restrictions, please email the department at: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
