Stop 9: George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate & Gardens
George Washington Memorial Parkway, Mount Vernon, VA
(703) 780-2000 · mountvernon.org
Metro: Huntington

The hunt for truth and treasure takes Ben Gates to George Washington’s magnificent estate on the Potomac River—which houses some secrets of its own. There’s more to the founding father than his dollar bill image; Washington was a soldier, a farmer, a whiskey-maker and a family man, as visitors to Mount Vernon’s new Ford Orientation Center and the Donald W. Reynolds Museum and Education Center discover.

Go behind the scenes of the blockbuster movie "National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets" during this special tour, offered only in March! The National Treasure Tour is limited to 25 visitors per time slot (10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.) and features different locations on the Estate where the Hollywood crew filmed. Included in this approximately hour-long walking tour is the Mansion's basement and cornerstone, the setting for a pivotal scene. Fans of the movie will recognize the space as the location where Nicolas Cage's character kidnaps the president.

The tour combines Hollywood and history, giving visitors stories about the filming and also information on how the locations were used during George Washington's time. Please be aware that this is an extensive walking tour that covers steep steps in the Mansion and a walk down a long hill to the wharf.

$2 per tour in addition to Estate admission. There are no advance reservations for individual tickets. Groups of 20 or more may reserve a separate tour in advance by calling the Group Sales Office: 703-799-8688.

From Mount Vernon, take the George Washington Memorial Parkway to Old Town Alexandria. Turn left on King Street. Continue to Callahan Drive. Or, take Metro from Huntington to King Street.
