Ford’s Theatre earned its place in history on April 14, 1865, when Abraham Lincoln was shot by actor and Confederate sympathizer John Wilkes Booth while attending a performance. In the Picture, it’s a long-missing page from Booth’s diary that sends Ben Gates on his quest to learn the truth about his family’s past. Since the theatre is closed for renovations through late 2008, stop for a photo-op or pick up one of the city’s trolley or open-top bus tours nearby. You can learn more about that fateful April night across 10th Street at Petersen House, the private residence where Lincoln was carried after the shooting, and where he died the following morning.
From Ford’s Theatre and the Petersen House, walk south on 10th Street to E Street. Turn right on E Street. Stop for a photo-op at the FBI Building (935 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Metro: Federal Triangle) where Agent Sadusky and his team work to track Gates and his plans. Take Metro from Federal Triangle to McPherson Square.| < previous stop | next stop > |
